Visiting the garden at Marybank is an experience you won't forget. Not only will you enjoy breathtaking views through massive red gums, but you'll also have the opportunity to appreciate the Heritage Listed Georgian style house built in 1842 and the old garden that surrounds it. The main homestead is surrounded by large lawns and traditional garden beds, with informal walks leading you through an additional 7 acres of land. As you stroll through the rambling garden, you'll be surrounded by fragrant roses and perennials, and you'll reach a seat that offers stunning views back to the house with the imposing Black Hill in the background. Some areas have hardly changed since the 1800s, with hardy species of plants surviving with little or no supplementary water. The garden is also home to several very old trees, including a Port Jackson fig, and a Picconia excelsa, which is an attractive and rare tree related to the olive and is now endangered in its homeland, the Canary Islands. Overall, Marybank's garden is a true testament to the past and present, reflecting the rich history and beauty of the region.
