Why we started a wedding business?
Because……..we are all superheroes. We all have super human powers and that is why we started a wedding business.
Well……..that is why we took the plunge and opened our first restaurant in 2003 in the Clare Valley, anyway. We married in 2003 having worked and met in hospitality, then 6 months later moved to a town where we only knew 2 people.
Well a little and a lot. I failed accounting at TAFE so there was a lot for me to learn. I ran the front of house and customer service which I knew about but the actual money side, I knew nothing about. Billy, my husband had been a chef for 8 years already and had been promoted to head chef, so he knew all about costings and ordering. A PLUS and a YAY!
10 years later and two kids later we moved back to Adelaide.
So Billy & I have never attempted married half heartedly. We take risks and we do it together, as a family. We argue and we love a lot. We support each other (although it may not always seem that way) and we try to live a balanced life.
But why weddings? well we had already worked long hours before and missed out on so many weekend parties, catch ups, family gatherings, dinner with new friends, catching up with old ones too. The truth is, our weekends (even though we worked them) were the best times and we have some of the best memories. Our staff are always our friends and yeah, hospitality isn’t all that bad.
Weddings allow us to spend time with our family while they are still young. Weddings allow us to financially support this property (and gosh its huge!). A property that has been in our family for 6 generations and we want to keep it that way. With the future and the city fast approaching, we cradle Marybank like its our baby. We want to protect it, love it, nurture it, make it the best it can be, and hope that it will make many couples happy, as it makes us happy.
Cheers to the memories and making memories. Life is short, so make the most of it.
